POSITION OVERVIEW

San Francisco Public Health Foundation (SFPHF) seeks a flexible, creative, visionary, and client-focused Executive Director to lead this organization into the future. The Executive Director will oversee the organization’s vision; manage strategic relationships including clients, governmental entities, Board Members, staff, and volunteers; and ensure fiscal responsibility through grant management, grant making, and fundraising.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The position works closely with the Board of Directors. An internal team of seven full-time employees report to this position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership + Management

  • Demonstrated visionary leadership experience in the nonprofit sector; preferably in the public health field and/or community-centric organization. 

  • Manage and oversee a staff of seven internal team members.

  • Proactively build meaningful client relationships with key community partners and stakeholders. Understand nuanced stakeholder dynamics

Board of Directors

  • Serve as a strategic partner with the Board and its sub-committees to ensure effective resource development, governance practices, and fiscal responsibility and stability.

  • Partners with the Board of Directors and Staff in the development and execution of short-term goals, long-term goals and the execution of the pending strategic work plan.

  • Translate approved goals into action and oversee their implementation.  

Financial Management + Fundraising

  • Implement financial strategies, including budget management, facility with profit/loss statements, balance sheets and contract management/negotiation. 

  • Collaborate with Director of Finance in identifying and organizing potential fundraising resources.

  • Experience working successfully with fundraising practices.

Internal Team + Operations

  • In depth experience with talent management and human resources with an eye for effective internal collaboration.

  • Promote a culture of thoughtful transparency, authenticity and generosity. 

  • Enthusiastically supervise and motivate the internal team to achieve their best work.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven or more years of progressively challenging nonprofit leadership experience 

  • Passionate about the mission of San Francisco Public Health Foundation and its community partners

  • Experience in creating organizational and financial plans in partnership with a Board of Directors

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience

  • Gifted and analytical diplomat who strives for each voice to be heard

  • Track record of working with a culturally-diverse population of community leaders, board members, volunteers, and staff

  • Creative problem-solver 

  • Thoughtful and proactive listener

  • A generous customer-service attitude with all clients and stakeholders

  • Deep ability to proactively and effectively collaborate with peers, Board members, and volunteers

  • Synthesize information succinctly and persuasively

  • Knowledge of the SF Bay Area public health world, strongly preferred

  • Present information clearly to diverse audiences

SALARY OR SALARY RANGE

The salary range for this position is $150,000-$175,000

Vacation/PTO: 13 paid holidays; 15 days’ vacation in 1st year of employment (accrual increases each year)
