For 24 years, the Sunday Friends Foundation has been graduating very low income families in Silicon Valley out of poverty into opportunity.  Our mission is to empower low income families to break the generational cycle of poverty by fostering positive development and academic achievement in children, and by equipping parents to invest in their children’s life success.  Engaging the whole family, we offer educational opportunities for youth and adults that raise aspirations, and provide tools to help families thrive. More than a service, Sunday Friends is a supportive community of clients, volunteers and staff working together towards a brighter future.

Position Summary

A dynamic fundraiser and cultivator of volunteer talent, the Manager of Donor & Community Engagement will help drive revenue growth by leading an effective development strategy for donors, volunteers and corporate partnerships.  Able to mobilize talent and skill, the Manager will empower an already strong volunteer base to support greater capacity in the organization and stronger commitment to the mission.  Crucial to the Manager’s work is the ability for inspiring and compelling story-telling across social media channels.  

The Manager for Donor & Community Engagement will be an entrepreneurial professional who excels at front-line relationship building and devising strategies for propelling the organization forward with increased revenue and significant partnerships. A collaborative and strategic thinker, the Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and play a central role on the Management Team to place Sunday Friends at the the forefront of the community. 

Primary Responsibilities:

Drive Revenue Growth

  • Plan and implement annual development plan.
  • Develop and implement donor strategy for donor cultivation, solicitation and relations. 
  • Coordinate grant application process and reporting with grant writer.
  • Assist with donation processing and acknowledgment, and manage donor database.
  • Assist with special events.

Empower Volunteers

  • Develop and implement volunteer engagement strategy for recruitment and development.
  • Recruit volunteer talent for specific leadership and support roles.
  • Develop policies and procedures for screening, training and managing volunteers.
  • Identify volunteer opportunities across Sunday Friends operations.
  • Oversee administration of volunteer database.

Strengthen Corporate Partnerships

  • Develop and implement corporate outreach strategy for volunteer engagement and funding support.
  • Cultivate partnerships with Corporate Community Engagement Officers.
  • Coordinate corporate volunteer projects at corporate sites or at Sunday Friends.

Sharing Our Story

  • Develop and implement a social media strategy and manage social media presence.
  • Assist with developing and coordinating an annual communications calendar.
  • Coordinate story-telling opportunities (news, impact and testimonials).
  • Identify marketing and public relations opportunities.

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Advanced degrees and/or related certifications a plus.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in a nonprofit manager role or fund development.

Demonstrated  Skills and Competencies:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Team player able to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to be clear and concise in all communications.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on executing projects.
  • Have a can-do attitude with a flexible disposition to respond to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.
  • Experience using databases required; technology expertise is important.
  • Passion for the mission of Sunday Friends and a disposition towards service.

Working Environment:

This position is an exempt, full-time position. Salary, benefits and PTO are competitive. Requires flex-time work.  Successful candidate must be available to oversee volunteer coordination at some Sunday programs and be available to work occasional weeknights and weekends to represent the organization at special events.  The management team is temporarily working remotely due to the COVID-19 crisis.
