The SETI Institute is seeking the ideal candidate for the position of Annual Fund Manager to join our collaborative, competent and hardworking Development team.  The Annual Fund Manager will be responsible for managing broad-based fundraising programs, including donor communications, giving groups/society relationships, donor stewardship programs and events, tracking and analysis of fundraising campaigns. 

The Annual Fund Manager will work collaboratively with the Director of Development, Development Assistant, direct mail and digital fundraising consulting partners, and the SETI Institute marketing and communications team.  In addition, the Manager, will focus on achieving the Development goals of the Institute’s fast-growing broad-based fundraising effort. The ideal candidate will be a data-driven fundraiser with the ability to lead the creation of inspiring campaigns.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising

  • Lead and develop fundraising strategy and creative direction for all parts of the broad-based  program in collaboration with the Director of Development, and consultants.
  • Manage consulting relationships and all broad-based fundraising activities, including digital campaigns, direct mail, and crowdfunding.
  • Develop and implement donor retention, upgrade and cultivation strategies in collaboration with the Director of Development.
  • Manage workplace giving and matching gifts efforts.
  • Grow sustaining donor program(s) and develop new stewardship and communication strategies.
  • Analyze data, test strategies, versions, and packages.
  • Develop and execute donor acquisition strategies.
  • Work closely with marketing and communications team to promote all campaigns across the Institute’s communications assets. 

 

Donor Services, Acknowledgement and Retention

  • Manage and provide oversight of gift processing and acknowledgement.
  • Ensure that all gifts are recorded accurately and donors receive timely acknowledgements.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate strategies that lead to sound donor cultivation, acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship.

Database Administration

  • Provide leadership and direction to staff on use of software (Salesforce NPSP, Marketo)
  • Manage all data requests for broad-based communications; review mailing lists, recognition lists and financial reports for accuracy.
  • Produce analytics and data reports to track campaign performance.
  • Manage online giving performance analytics.

 

Department Administration

  • Support the Director of Development in developing and maintaining an annual revenue and expense budget.
  • Implement new fundraising strategies, and creating a strategic work plan for the broad-based fundraising program each year.
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Minimum of five years fundraising experience preferred.
  • Experience managing fund raising support staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to craft creative, mission-driven copy that motivates donors to give.
  • Must be able to perform in a rapidly changing environment and adapt quickly to change tactics as necessary to improve revenue results.
  • Must possess strong project management and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented and able to complete complex projects with accuracy and efficiency, with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent software skills with proficiency in Salesforce NPSP or similar CRM for non-profits platform(s).   Experience with Marketo marketing automation tools a plus.
  • Knowledge of current nonprofit fundraising best practices highly desired.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships across the board are critical in this role.
