Director of Development Job Description


Dream Volunteers’ mission is to position young people across the globe to become change makers through education, service and cross-cultural connections. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization coordinating both local and international youth service-learning programs. These programs include academic scholarships for our international students living in under-resourced communities and service trips abroad for US-based student groups.

Job Title: Director of Development


Reports to: Executive Director


Position Summary: The Director of Development (DoD) will partner with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and DV staff to lead our growing development efforts. The DoD will play an integral role in strengthening the organization's overall fundraising capacity, long-term sustainability, and our ability to deepen our impact. In addition, the DoD will be a key member of DV’s three-person executive team, responsible for setting and guiding the strategic direction of our growing organization. This is primarily a remote position. Weekly in-person meetings are required in our Sunnyvale office. Compensation to be discussed.


Essential Functions:

➢      Forge new relationships to build DV’s visibility, impact and financial resources

➢      Secure minimum $100,000 in new funding between Q4 2019 and Q3 2020

➢      Stewardship of existing donor relationships

➢      As part of the $100,000 in new funding, secure a minimum of 2 new major gifts (>$7500) per quarter between Q4 2019 and Q3 2020

➢      Collaborate with Executive Director and Board of Directors to revise current development plan

➢      Create written and graphic content for newsletters and social media campaigns

➢      Plan and attend at least one donor-hosted house party in Q4 2019 or Q1 2020


Minimum Job Requirements: First and foremost we look for individuals with a heart for the mission on which Dream Volunteers has been built. Additionally, we seek someone who is hard working, autonomous, innovative, and results oriented. 


Experience: 5+ years experience working in a fundraising or development-related position



➢      Proven success in designing and directing development campaigns, building a network and increasing development contributions

➢      Experience with donor segmentation, A/B testing and moves management

➢      Strong collaboration with peers and senior leaders, as well as volunteers and committee members

➢      Performance-based focus tracking and reporting on outcomes

➢      Proficient with MS Office suite and Google Apps as well as the  major social media platforms

➢      Confidence using Salesforce CRM. Must have comfort level learning this sophisticated database management software system.

➢      Ability to create powerful and compelling written and oral communications for fundraising and other development purposes

➢      Comfort level speaking with various stakeholders (donors, grantors, sponsors)

➢      Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

➢      High level of confidence making decisions and taking initiative with minimal guidance

➢      Must participate in weekly in-person meetings and work-related activities in and around Mountain View
